Waste disposal on earth is alr costly. Waste disposal in space would be astronomical. Plus u dont want to shoot your nuclear waste at god

lol shooting it into space would make it a much bigger problem. Shooting rockets into space is costly and also produces greenhouse gasses. Next to that is that some rockets fail or explode which would result into radioactive waste being released into the atmosphere which would be bad.

Shooting stuff into space is expensive. Nuclear waste, as far as I know, also includes stuff like tools that's also used to handle radiated stuff. Maybe possible if we ever made a space elevator.

Do you know how much it costs to send something into space? The pricetag is in the billions, for a couple of hundred pounds And unless you fire it into the sun, or Jupiter, or Saturn, it is going to establish an orbit somewhere. That orbit could be changed from the other planets, or a big rock, so it would be in earth path. There is allso a chance that the launch fails, and the rocker explodes in the rampe, or worse, during its climb. That would be a disaster.

Because the cost and risk far outweighs the gain. But the nuclear problem is far grater then the waste. And it is still better then wind, water and solar. And modern more efficient nuclear plants can reuse old fule shortening the half-life time by a lot. And despite that the current basic designed of our powerplant are based on nuclear submariens... and there are far better designs for large scale energy production but since -my hippie parents- have an irrational fear of nuclear power we don't have it.

We have already a stable solution deep underground. And the volume is low, but heavy. And you want to push this mass to the outer space instead of burying it? Also, whereas the underground storage is stable, a rocket would be an excellent terrorist target to contaminate a large zone.

Hey, I've got a better idea. Uranium nuclear fuel is typically only 5% used up, let's recycle it, we can build a plant that burns up the plutonium, the higher isotopes are useful for RTG generators, and in the end, instead of waste, we will end up with inert lead.

That would only be a solution, if we could teleport the waste right from the reactor to the moon.

1st thing that comes to mind is that commercial flights count on fact that spaceship should return to Earth... if you want to shoot waste into space(maybe SUN) the spaceship wont return, it will be expensive and soon enough you will be out of resources to build one An option would be to transport waste on another planet but you would have to transport machinery to move it also
